Some things aren't in the config. You could save a scene file with all of
your prefs set and load that as the default each time. Of course, you
wouldn't need to have any objects in the scene...

If you are using the prerelease of 4.0, each time you start Modeler, you
could save the grid centered to one of the numeric keys. See the
shortcuts requester (F12) for help..
